MRSA_Hospital Acquired Infections-Public Health Threat (646) 652-2105 Thursday at 5:00 PM (CST) “In America hospitals alone, healthcare-associated infections account for an estimated 2 million infections and 100,000 associated deaths each year.” Patient Safety culture is in a decline, infection rates are high and the leadership of some of our so called top hospitals knows that there is a serious problem, but is doing nothing to rectify the problem. Nurses and doctors are complaining of this problem, turnover rate is high, but why do you think this is not a problem to those who run the hospital? The answer is unaccountability. Hospital problems are mainly out of sight and not talked about until a major scandal come out. Medicare has recently required hospitals to begin reporting infection rates, but that is still minor, for we still have to trust in self-reported data that is not accurate. Hospitals are financially rewarded to continue providing dangerous service. Hospitals have no accountability system and are able to do as they please. In 2011 Joy's son was fighting for his life after he acquired a deadly blood infection. Find out how one mother fought hard to raise awareness and to educate her community about this deadly infection. What can we do t make our hospitals safe?
